About Us
MERCI Activities:
- Disaster preparedness/response training.
- On site programs to make disaster response “kits.”
- Training for youth and adults on basic construction as used in disaster repair work or home repair/mitigation work.
- A home repair/mitigation program that will recruit volunteers from around the country to work in North Carolina.
- Disaster response/recovery programs that will be set up to respond to emergency situations in NC or anywhere in the country.
- Orientation retreats for mission work teams.
- Leadership training for UMVIM.
- Storage facility for disaster response materials.
- Staging and distribution center during times of emergency.
MERCI Staff Goals:
- To help people understand the need for being in mission to the world, what those are and how to respond to them.
- To provide a place for spiritual renewal through hands on experiences of helping God's people.
- To improve the living conditions of the people of Eastern North Carolina.
- To make homes “disaster-proof” through mitigation standards.
- To educate the church and the public on how to be prepared for and to respond to disasters.
- To provide an atmosphere for training mission leaders, disaster response workers, and home owners.
- To be a coordinating agency between homeowners and local/and state agencies, and to act as an advocate for the homeowners.
- To respond as needed to disasters when and where they occur.
