Staff Information
Programs Manager:
A native of Davidson County, Rev. Jim Huskins served in the US Air Force for twenty years before entering the ministry. He served Soapstone and Andrews Chapel churches while attending Duke University. Rev. Huskins served at Mt. Zion UMC in Hurdle Mills for five years. In 1991, he was appointed to the Hatteras charge and remained there for eight and one half years until moving to Edenton, NC. Rev. Huskins retired in June of 2007 and now serves as the Program Manager for MERCI. While at Hatteras, he started the work that became the Wesley Hospitality House. Rev. Huskins served for eight years on the NCCUMC Disaster Response Committee and established interfaith disaster recovery groups in response to natural disasters in Dare, Bertie, and Chowan counties.
Business Manager:
Dondi is a native and resident of Lenoir County. In 2001 Dondi joined the NCCUMC / MERCI efforts in response to Hurricane Floyd. She served in administration for the Kinston Area Recovery Efforts (KARE) team in Kinston, NC. Her background experience is in marketing/sales promotion and the retail buying industry. Serving as the Business Manager, she is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions, human resources, managing the annual budget and implementing and monitoring proper internal control procedures. She is also currently serving as the Treasurer for the NCCUMC Disaster Response Committee. Dondi holds an A.A.S. in Business Administration, Certificate in Human Resource Management and an BSBE in Information Technologies and Business Education. She is currently pursuing her MBA and a Non-Profit Management Certificate. In her spare time, Dondi teaches Marketing/Advertising at Lenoir Community College in Kinston, NC.
Volunteer Coordinator / Caseworker:
A native North Carolinian, Ann has been a United Methodist since her marriage to United Methodist pastor, Butch Huffman. They have two sons with families of their own including granddaughters Hannah, Emily, Faith Ann and grandson Noah. After teaching mathematics for seventeen years, Ann joined the NCCUMC / MERCI efforts of Hurricane Floyd as a volunteer coordinator in Raleigh, NC. She continues to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator in addition to Caseworker. Her responsibilities as VC involve directing volunteers to places where they clean up and rebuild after a disaster, repair and build houses for low income families, or sort and pack emergency kits for worldwide distribution. Her casework responsibilities include the management of all casework and client qualification procedures Ann also manages all kit collections for UMCOR and the collections for the NCCUMC Mission projects.
Contractor / Warehouse Manager:
A native and resident of Wayne County, Joey is a licensed contractor and serves as the Warehouse Manager. He is responsible for the management of all movement of warehouse donations and construction purchases as well as overseeing assessments and rebuilding efforts by volunteer teams. Joey joined the MERCI team in 2006 after leaving the public sector of new home construction and repairs as a self employed contractor. He is also a licensed evangelist in The Church of God and is a member of The Church of God in Fremont, NC.
Construction Resources: Bob Bloodsworth
Bob is a native of Baltimore, MD but currently resides in Wayne County. After retiring from 22 years of service as a Missile Technician in the US Air Force and 18 years as a mechanic for General Electric, Bob joined the disaster response efforts of the NCCUMC / MERCI during Hurricane Floyd. He served in construction resources and warehouse logistics in Goldsboro, NC. Bob continues to be responsible for the logistics of warehouse donations, construction material purchases, and shipments.
Lutheran Disaster Response Coordinator:
A native of Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania George served his final Air Force tour of duty at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and now resides in Goldsboro. Following 26 years in the Air Force as a meteorologist, he was hired by Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas, the NC Lutheran Disaster Response affiliate agency, to be the NC Disaster Response Coordinator in October 1999 (Hurricane Floyd). In December of 2003, he was invited to have office space at the MERCI Center and an ecumenical partnership begun in 1999 was strengthened. He was elected Secretary of the Board of North Carolina Interfaith Disaster Response, Inc and serves on several North Carolina Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster committees.
